Check Local STVRs
Cathedral City permits various types of Short Term Vacation Rental (STVR) businesses. All require licensing.
In March 2021, the city adopted new rules:
-
- STVRs are permitted in any Common Interest Development (HOA) where the local community rules permit them.
- In other locations, STVRs are only permitted in the form of a ‘home share’. This type of rental requires the property owner to be at the property throughout the period of rental. (For example, if an owner wants to rent out a casita for the weekend). This is still considered a business, and a permit is required.
- During the transition period from the old rules to the new ones, which lasts until January 1st 2023, all existing businesses can continue to renew their permits. But after that date, only businesses that comply with the new rules will be allowed to operate.
- Whole house STVR businesses outside an HOA must cease trading on January 1st, 2023.
